• Aspen Petroleum Supply Chain Planner

Optimizes the assets and economics of your supply and distribution network

Aspen Petroleum Supply Chain Planner is a powerful economic planning tool that solves multi-commodity, multi-period transport optimization problems related to allocating resources—including all modes of transportation, feedstock acquisition, sales demands, and processing facilities—and balances them to maximize profitability. Aspen Petroleum Supply Chain Planner is a core element of aspenONE® Supply and Distribution for Refining and Marketing.

    Features

    • Model the Supply & Distribution Problem:  Improve profits by applying scenario simulation using a linear programming (LP) model. This optimizes the assets and economics of acquiring, producing, storing, and distributing multiple commodities using multiple modes of transportation over multiple time periods.  At any node in the network materials may be produced or consumed, purchased, sold, or exchanged, transported or inventoried.
    • Optimal Supply & Distribution Plans: Generate optimal feedstock acquisition and product distribution plans for multiple time periods at various levels of granularity (days, weeks, months, etc.).
    • Early Detection of Supply/Demand Problems:  Forecast and proactively evaluate supply and demand problems long before they occur.
    • Terminal Management:  Improve asset utilization, rationalization of terminals, and reduction of average inventory level at terminals. Greatly increase visibility of demand, production, inventory and distribution constraints, and reduce the cost for safety stock.
    • Exchange Management: Evaluate make vs. trade vs. exchange decisions, including multiple nodes, multiple products per exchange contract, and even exchanges across time periods.  Enable the user to maximize leverage of exchange agreements.
    • Optimize Tanker/Ship Scheduling:  Use Aspen Petroleum Supply Chain Planner in a daily scheduling mode to generate an optimal schedule for waterborne transportation making multiple port calls with a limited number of vessels and vessel cargo capacities and configurations.
    • What-if Analysis: Evaluate alternative strategies and tactical maneuvers, as well as the impact of a wide variety of options, such as new markets, new terminals, or government regulations.  Study the impact of adding or removing terminals, tanks, and transportation modes or contracts. Now with the capability of multiple case comparisons, Aspen Petroleum Supply Chain planner facilitates even faster and better decision making.
    • Integrated Planning: Integrate key data flows in Aspen Petroleum Supply Chain Planner with Aspen PIMS Advanced Optimization, Aspen Collaborative Demand Manager, Aspen Petroleum Scheduler and Aspen Inventory Management & Operations Scheduling as a part of a holistic approach to optimizing the petroleum supply chain.

    Benefits

    • Reduce Overall Supply & Distribution Costs:  Evaluate options such as alternate sourcing locations and exchanges.  LP optimization of the distribution network helps make long- and near-term transportation decisions.
    • Reduce Inventory:  Re-optimize terminal inventory during seasonal changeovers, turnarounds, shutdowns, slowdowns, and market upsets.
    • Network Asset Rationalization:  Enables strategic planning for capital asset investments by allowing the user to study effects of adding or removing assets such as terminals or changes customer locations.
    • Detailed Planning and Scheduling Tools:  Enables a view that encompasses much longer time horizons and many more business locations to provide long term and wider geographies, providing optimal guidance for detailed AspenTech planning and scheduling systems.
    • Solve Problems with Speed and Accuracy:  Accelerate decision making with sound financial justification, promote sound judgment through accurate allocation assessments, and facilitate better teamwork and communication. Evaluate multiple cases to optimize decision making.
