Aspen Properties®

The industry standard for thermophysical properties modeling throughout the product and process lifecycle

Aspen Properties provides state-of-the-art physical property methods, models, algorithms, and data enabling chemists and engineers to easily perform engineering calculations based on rigorous and proven thermophysical property models and data. It allows users to capture and deploy consistent physical property data and knowledge across the chemical enterprise. Aspen Properties is a core element of AspenTech's aspenONE™ Process Engineering applications.

Features

Aspen Properties consists of three key features required to support physical properties calculations across an enterprise:

  • The Aspen Engine - Aspen Properties provides a rigorous, consistent thermophysical property calculation engine and a user-friendly interface that includes:
    • Extensive pure component and binary parameter databanks
    • Direct links to the National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST) Source Database containing more than 1 million points of experimental data for more than 17,000 pure components
    • The NIST Thermo Data Engine (TDE) system for evaluating properties using experimental data from the NIST Source Database and estimations from thermodynamically consistent methods
    • Comprehensive library of thermophysical and transport property models
    • Built-in parameter estimation and data regression capabilities
    • Extendable to user property models and data
    • Internet link to DETHERM® data
    • Mathematical algorithms for phase equilibrium calculations (VLE, LLE, VLLE, and salt precipitation)
    • Analysis tools for property and phase equilibrium calculations
    • Proven results for highly non-ideal chemicals, solvents, electrolytes, and solids
    • Interface with third-party applications through CAPE-OPEN COM thermodynamic, Microsoft automation, and FORTRAN interfaces
  • The Microsoft Excel® Calculator Add-In - This provides access to rigorous and proven Aspen Properties models and data within Excel through simple function calls. It facilitates the reuse and deployment of physical property knowledge throughout the enterprise. A wide range of thermophysical and transport properties and phase-equilibrium calculations is supported, including:
    • Thermophysical and Transport Properties fugacity coefficients, activity coefficients, molar enthalpy, molar entropy, molar volume, viscosity, thermal conductivity, etc.
    • Phase-equilibrium Calculations bubble point, dew point, temperature-pressure flash, temperature-vapor fraction flash, pressure-vapor fraction flash, temperature-enthalpy flash, pressure-enthalpy flash, and salt precipitation

    • The Web Application - This enables easy access to a wide range of physical property calculations and data using only a web browser. It supports pure-component property calculations (such as vapor pressure as a function of temperature), binary phase equilibrium analysis for Txy and Pxy diagrams, and mixture property analysis with or without flash.

Benefits

Aspen Properties enables all chemists, engineers, and technologists in the enterprise to access the industry standard for thermophysical property calculations. It helps to ensure that all engineering applications use the same rigorous and proven thermophysical property models and data, delivering consistent and reliable results throughout the product and process lifecycle.
