Aspen RateSep™
Rate-based column modeling for maximum reliability
Aspen RateSep extends the functionality of the Aspen Plus® RadFrac distillation model with second-generation rate-based technology, ensuring more accurate simulation predictions over a wider range of operating conditions. Aspen RateSep uses state-of-the-art mass and heat transfer correlations to predict column performance, eliminating the need for efficiency factors or HETPs.
Aspen RateSep is a core element of AspenTech aspenONE™ Process Engineering applications.Features
- Tightly integrated into Aspen Plus, allowing single-click switch from equilibrium-based to rate-based distillation calculations; homotopy options ensure robust initialization and convergence.
- Online deployment of models as part of an open-loop operator advisory system or in closed-loop, real-time optimization/advanced process control applications when used with Aspen Online Deployment™ and Aspen Simulation Workbook™.
- Best-in-class physical properties methods and data. Aspen RateSep uses the extensive databases of pure component and phase equilibrium data built into Aspen Plus.
- Reactive distillation, including electrolytic, equilibrium, and kinetic reactions
- Built-in mass and heat transfer and column hydraulics correlations for a wide range of trays and packing types.
- Extensibility. Includes a full set of interfaces to link in user-defined correlations for transfer coefficients, interfacial area, pressure drop, and kinetics.
- Design mode for calculating column diameter based on approach to flooding
- Leverages Aspen Plus’s unique equation-oriented architecture, ensuring excellent computational performance
Options
- Aspen RateSep is an optional extension of Aspen Plus, tightly integrated with the industry-standard RadFrac distillation model, enabling single-click transition from equilibrium-based to rate-based calculations
- Aspen Simulation Workbook enables easy development of Excel®-based user interfaces to Aspen Plus models, enabling deployment to casual users
Benefits
Aspen RateSep is a proven, second-generation, rate-based distillation modeling solution used by nearly 100 commercial clients. Customers have recognized and reported:
- More than 10% savings in capital expenditure by avoiding costly over-design of key distillation equipment Significantly improved model accuracy compared to equilibrium-based and first-generation, rate-based distillation models Reduced risks of inadequately sizing key columns, resulting in better investment decisions and improved ROI
